Mission Fire Station: Baked goods

Posted in Announcements | No Comments »

Hey Roadies!

As you may know, our class has adopted two fire stations to minister to throughout the year.  Our next event for that is coming up on February 4th.  Last time we made dinner, this time we’d like to take them some baked goods to enjoy.

The plan is to meet at noon that Saturday at Sarah/Allison’s house to fellowship and make the baked goods, then deliver them to each fire station.  Salt, Baking Soda, and Baking Powder will be provided, please bring any additional ingredients you’ll need with you.

Here are some ideas of things to make if you need them: breads, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, or brownies.

Please text or email me and let me know if you can join us so we will know how many people to expect!

Where: Sarah Vick/Allison’s house then Fire Stations 1 & 9

When: Saturday, February 4th.  Meet at noon, bake and deliver goods.

Disciple Now Meals

Posted in Announcements | No Comments »

Hey Roadsters,

The Student Ministry will be doing a Disciple Now retreat on January 13—15 and have asked several ABF’s if they would help provide some meals for the students to help keep the cost low.  They are needing lunches and breakfasts for the 16 host homes that will be throughout Irving on that Saturday, January 14.  This would be a huge help and an incredible blessing.  They’ve asked if we could pair up and provide a few meals for either breakfast or lunch.  The students are going to eat at their host home, so we would deliver the meal to that home.  There will only be about 6 students per home that you would need food for.  We need to let Janelle know by Thursday who can help and how many meals we’ll be able to provide.  Please email Elizabeth (elwong74@gmail.com) no later than Wednesday so we can send that info along!

Thanks for considering this chance to serve our students!

The Whaley’s are Leaving…

Dear Roadies,

You may or may not know this, but Greg has been in the Navy Reserves for quite some time now.  Last Thursday (a few days before Christmas), we received orders to active duty at the marine corps air station in Yuma, AZ.

Greg will be leaving this coming Sunday, January 1 for officer training in Rhode Island.  He will spend 5 weeks there, graduate on February 3, and then will return to Irving.  We’ll spend the weekend and one last Sunday with you, then we leave town and move to Yuma  on February 7 where we will be for 3 to 3 and 1/2 years.

We were very surprised and saddened by this news, but we know that the Lord is faithful and works all things together for our good– even if they’re not pleasant at the moment!  We love you all so much and don’t want to go, but we know this is where the Lord is calling us for this season.  Please pray with us that the move will be smooth and that the Lord will comfort us as we leave the only home we’ve ever known.  We will look forward to visiting as often as we can!!

We hope to see everyone on Saturday for New Year’s Eve!

Road Prayer Week of 10/16/2011

Posted in Announcements | No Comments »

Hey Roadies! We had a wonderful discussion yesterday on Solitude. We were challenged by Allison to do one of two things this week to practice the discipline of solitude: 1- spend 24 hours in silence (oh how different that would make my day!) or 2- set aside an entire hour to spend in solitude, away from all distractions, to listen to God.

I pray you’re able to make time to do that this week!

There were some requests for prayer this week. Let’s come together as a class to lift one another up in prayer. (Colossians 4:2)
1. Rachael- needs the Lord to direct her in how to best use her time (don’t we all!), and is asking the Lord for discernment.
2. Beth- her grandmother fell and broke her hip (or broke her hip and fell, as we learned in nursing school…) last Friday. The family needs strength to care for her and needs compassion from the Lord to do so! Pray for unity in the family, healing for her grandmother, and strength for all involved!
3. Magean- my cousin, Cara, needs prayer. She knows she needs the Lord in her life (which is a step in the right direction, I’d say!), but also has big decisions to make- rehab being one of those big decisions. She needs the Lord’s direction!
4. The ministry staff at the church is on their retreat! Pray for rest and productivity as they spend time together to plan the next year in the life of our church.
5. Sarah has a friend in the hospital who is pregnant, but doesn’t have the right amount of amniotic fluid. There was a chance they were going to go ahead and take the baby today. Not sure if that happened or not, but either way, pray for protection for that sweet baby and health for mommy!

Love you all!

Prayer Requests!

Hey Roadies! Thanks so much for joining me in prayer last week for Greg! He and the team made it home safely!

Elizabeth Whitehouse would like for us to pray with her for her sister-in-law’s father. He is in the ICU suffering from liver failure and has been told he needs a liver transplant. Pray that a new liver will come available, or even better, that HIS liver be made new!

I love you all! We may be few in number, but we are strong in spirit! I pray you are making time to pray, mediate on God’s word, to fast, and to ask the Lord to help you simplify! Let’s stay diligent and keep practicing the spiritual disciplines so we can be changed!!

Hope to see you all this Saturday at 5:00 at the church, or at 6:30 at Big Tex! We have 16 free tickets left!! (thanks Sarah Vick)!

Road News!

Hello all! I know I have done a very poor job of communicating the past month or so, but I wanted to reach out to all of you tonight to ask for prayer! The Nicaragua team may encounter a road block (literally, not figuratively), tomorrow as they travel from the build site back to Puerto Cabezas. Some of the transportation unions there are on strike, and the road the guys need to travel is currently blocked off. We know the Lord isn’t surprised by this situation! Please join me in praying for their safety and for the Lord’s will for their trip.

Also wanted to remind everyone about the event this weekend! Meet at the Whaley house at 3 Saturday! We’ll cook for our fire stations and bless them with dinner, then come back for a movie!

Love you all!!
