Jon’s Brasil Update

Well, we just finished our third day here in Sao Paulo. Just to give you a little update on what we have been doing. We arrived on Sunday with no problems. We actually arrived in DC for our layover 30 min. early so we had plenty of time to make it to our connecting flight.

We met Liberio (Our Brazilian Host) at the airport and he drive us to his new mission house within walking distance of the University of Sao Paulo. When we arrived he told me that they had been up late setting things up. They had just obtained the house a month before we arrived. The house is in great condition and they even set up bunkbeds for us. They finished adding hot water to the shower last night. They took us to a Brazil Sam’s Club to get food for the week and we have everything we need here. They have been incredible hosts!

We are helping them finished the house to prepare for future teams. We are the first team to stay here. We also are helping with Liberio’s college ministry. On Sunday we had over 40 college students gathered in our house (the Den) to watch a Brazil World cup game. Then joined Liberio’s church plant for a service. Monday we did projects around the house and met with some christian students for a bible study at a local college. Today Liberio gave us a tour of downtown Sao Paulo. He even took us to a cathedral claiming to have a copy of the shroud of Christ. From downtown we walked to Mission Cena. At Cena, we helped serve the homeless a hot meal, showers, and clean clothes. Surprisingly it took from 2:00-8:00pm. They are incredible people at Cena. Jay, when I saw Joao was very happy to see our group. He said, “Jon welcome, this is your home.” He is a very joyful man and welcomed us all as family. There was another American team at Cena that we worked with led by American missionaries from Rio. Jay, I will try to get their contact info.

Tomorrow is more work here at the Den, college bible studies, and an outreach pancake party tonight. Evidently, our pancakes are very cool to them.

The team is all well and getting along great. Pray for continued strength, joyful spirits, and that we would be an encouragement to the people here.

Jon
